After working with national non-profit Operation FINALLY HOME in communities across Texas,

SouthStar Communities is excited to provide an acreage lot in its Dallas-Fort Worth community, Lake Ridge at Joe Pool Lake. The veteran’s home will be located on a beautiful, treed 1-acre property in the gated, lakeside neighborhood, The Sanctuary at Lake Ridge, in Grand Prairie.

Three organizations have stepped up to build the veteran’s new home including the Dallas Builders Association, who recently adopted Operation FINALLY HOME as their main charity; the Former NFL Players Association; and builder Victory Custom Homes, owned by Alan Dulworth and former Dallas Cowboy Bill Bates.

To complete the home in Lake Ridge, we need the community’s help and support in the form of volunteers, fundraising, monetary donations and donated materials and supplies. If you or your company or organization would like to support this “modern day barn raising,” contact us today!

HOW IT WORKS:

Operation FINALLY HOME works with home builders and developers to commit to building a home. Once the commitment is in place, the program works hand-in-hand with building suppliers and donors to get much needed material and manpower donated to drive the cost of the home down.

Operation FINALLY HOME relies on the donations of developers, home builders, contractors, corporate sponsors and individual contributors to continue building homes for those who have given so much for our country.

About Operation FINALLY HOME:

Operation FINALLY HOME was founded in 2005 as a non-partisan/non-profit organization with the mission to provide Americans the ability to honor and thank America’s wounded and disabled veterans and the widows of the fallen who have sacrificed to defend our country in the global War on Terror.  Severely wounded and disabled service members return home to confront extreme hardships, from physical and emotional disabilities to financial ruin, joblessness and homelessness.  Dismayed by their plight, Operation FINALLY HOME addresses the most pressing need of our returning heroes  — a home to call their own. By donating a home to these deserving veterans, it helps them get their lives back on track and become productive members of their communities.

The program was founded by Bay Area homebuilder Dan Wallrath after he helped a friend’s son renovate his home to meet his new needs as a wounded veteran. In 2010, Wallrath was honored as one of CNN’s Top 10 Heroes of the Year and has since expanded the program to a national level.

An American hero who lost both legs and an arm in Afghanistan will get a fresh start thanks to several local organizations teaming up to build him a new mortgage-free custom home. Being Nice: SouthStar Communities’ Gives Operation FINALLY HOME a Whole LOT of Dirt

SouthStar Communities is a residential real estate development company with a very soft spot for veterans. Just in time for July 4, SouthStar is partnering with Operation FINALLY HOME, the Dallas Builders Association and the NFL Former Players Association, to build a custom home in The Sanctuary at Lake Ridge, a beautiful gated, neighborhood in Grand Prairie, Texas often featured on this blog. This is not SouthStar’s first donation rodeo. The developer has previously donated 10 homesites to veterans in its Vintage Oaks community in New Braunfels, named because of the on-site vineyard, and King Oaks near Bryan-College Station, Texas. Most of those homesites are downright huge: the lot SouthStar has selected to give away is one full acre.

Operation FINALLY HOME is an organization that partners with corporate sponsors, builders, developers and volunteers to provide wounded and disabled veterans and widows of fallen soldiers with brand spanking new, mortgage-free, custom-built homes.

“The Association’s partnership with Operation FINALLY HOME is a natural fit,” said Phil Crone, Executive Officer of the Dallas Builders Association. “Our members are in the business of building the American dream and these deserving veterans are in the business of protecting and defending it. We look forward to being a partner in this project and in many more to come.”

The home itself will be built by Victory Custom Homes, owned by Alan Dulworth and former Dallas Cowboy Bill Bates. SouthStar’s 1-acre homesite will be in The Sanctuary at Lake Ridge community, with amenities including a golf course, 154-acre sports park, hike and bike trails and the 7,500-acre Joe Pool Lake. The community is home to many former sports stars. Since 1999, SouthStar has developed 20 communities throughout Florida, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Operation FINALLY HOME is currently reviewing candidates to select the family that will be honored with the mortgage-free home, and will break ground on the home in July. The home is built solely through financial and material donations from the community, and fundraising for the project will begin soon. Those interested in supporting the project can submit donations online at Lakeridge.net/veteran.

“At SouthStar Communities, we’re grateful to the men and women of the military — and their family members — for the sacrifices they make for our country,” said Thad Rutherford, senior vice president of SouthStar Communities. “We’re proud to work with Operation FINALLY HOME, the Dallas Builders Association and the NFL Former Players Association on this project to provide a new home to the patriots who’ll be living in our community.”

SouthStar Communities is a residential real estate development company based in Dallas, Texas. The company is affiliated with SouthStar Development Partners, and led by CEO J. Larry Rutherford. The firm’s primary activities include the analysis, financing, acquisition, planning and marketing of real estate for both residential and commercial uses. Former Dallas Cowboy Bill Bates, President of Victory Custom Homes, along with several retired NFL players, state and city officials held a ground breaking ceremony Wednesday at SouthStar Communities’ The Sanctuary at Lake Ridge for Operation Finally Home.

Operation Finally Home is a non-profit organization established in 2005. Its mission is to provide custom made mortgage free homes to wounded and disabled veterans and the widows of the fallen.

The home will be custom built to Veterans Administration guidelines to meet the needs of a disabled veteran injured while serving. It will be a twenty-five hundred square foot, single story, four bedroom with an open floor plan home that will include many custom features. It is to be built on a one acre, level home site to provide easy access for the veteran.

Bates said the name of the veteran, who has been selected to receive the home, will be announced later because he or she is not aware of their selection.

Being built through a partnership with Victory Custom Homes, Dallas Builders Association and Former NFL Players Association, the home is expected to be completed in October.

This is Victory Custom Homes first partnership with Operation Finally Home, Bates said.
